His name was Pip,
just like the small hard
seed of a fruit cover in
protective, juicy flesh.
A vulture overlooks
yet protects the seed
as the flesh rots away.
He must become his own,
a full fruit.

An Oak shows him how
to grow, but he is not an Oak.
A Lavender shows him how to
grow, yet he is no flower.
A rotten-to-the-core fruit
dissolves into the ground,
providing nourishment
for this Pip to grow.
Years later, he is a
tall-standing Apple tree
looking in the distance
to the now dead Oak and
the passing Lavender.
