Sound of glass shattering from the heavens,
a young boy knocks his cup
from the table.
Shards glisten as they shoot
to the floor,
building speed in light blues and whites.
Darkness around the small pieces
sheer through the cosmos,
letting other children know
not to folly.
Moments of silence
shake when the boy looks up
to his father.
Then, he exhales in a sight of relief,
knowing his father only smiled.
Spurts of laugher and gentle
ease fly past our bedroom windows
and outdoors where couples
hold hands upon blankets.
Breaking the speed of sound
and light can really
only be remembered in laughter
and smiles.
