Soda Pop Tops

Bottle caps used to be a child’s currency.
Freshly opened and twisted ever so slightly,
they maintain their shape.
There was only so much collecting you could do
considering a limited number of brands, sheer drinking volume,
and the daily quota regulated by parents.
It was always some kind of proof to kids.
It was the first time someone could go out
and show with their own token that
they were doing something.
It was a breakdown of social order
how a young kid could possess something showing their
own work.
Through all the bubbles, gulps, and upset stomaches,
it was evident they had resolve.
Kids with a mission statement for more soda pop tops.
